Appliquéd cotton, silk organza, and netting with encaustic painting.

The Seaman’s Chapel described in Moby Dick, which I have visited, made clear how the killing of sperm whales was the touchstone of a whole era’s culture and economy. The strong graphic of two of these whales is united by the faint outline of a third whale, opposite in direction, made by incising a groove that is filled with wax of a contrasting color.
